Learning how to debug software

How did you learn to debug software?

From a book? Documentation? A course? A colleague? Trial-and-error?

I ran a poll on LinkedIn, but it’s summer time, so it didn’t get a lot of votes. The results were similar to my experience: heavily skewed towards self-study/experimentation and colleagues.

Over the years, I’ve found a handful of fascinating debugging blog posts, but often they were good stories and didn’t teach about actionable techniques or tools.

I’m on a mission to change that.
